Fibromyalgia & Degenerative Disc Disease
Fibromyalgia & Degenerative Disc Disease
Using a Lay-Z-Spa for hydrotherapy can provide a wide range of physical health benefits borne from its ability to relax and improve circulation around the body. We spoke to one of our customers, Sue from Cornwall, who suffers from both Fibromyalgia and Degenerative Disc Disease. We wanted to find out how her Lay-Z-Spa has helped her to cope with these debilitating conditions to give her a happier more fulfilling life.
What is Fibromyalgia and Degenerative Disc Disease?
Fibromyalgia: Estimated to affect nearly 1 in 20 people, Fibromyalgia is a condition which causes pain all over the body. People who suffer may also have difficulty sleeping, muscle stiffness and increased sensitivity to pain.
Degenerative Disc Disease: Sue also suffers from Degenerative Disc Disease where the intervertebral discs lose their hydration and ability to act as a shock absorber. This results in the spine becoming more rigid and stiff causing the sufferer to lose movement.
Life for Sue Before Purchasing Her Spa
Before purchasing her spa Sue required help getting out of bed in the morning and found it painful, meaning walking even the shortest of distances was difficult. Going up and down the stairs at her home or even brushing her hair was a challenge.
Life For Sue Since Purchasing Her Spa
Sue chose to purchase her Lay-Z-Spa Paris after reading online that hot tubs can help with her condition. The perfect size for herself, her husband and her daughter with plenty of room left for guests, Sue says that her Lay-Z-Spa “relaxes me not only in my body but also in my mind.”
Since using her spa, Sue no longer needs help getting out of bed and can walk up and down the stairs with more ease than before. Although she still suffers from back pain it is less prominent and means that she can walk from A to B much quicker. Studies have shown similar effects of Hydrotherapy on Fibromyalgia sufferers. Those who had undergone treatment for just twice a week for six weeks had better muscle and joint function, reduced pain symptoms and improved sleep quality.
Sue's Daily Lay-Z-Spa Routine
Sue uses her spa for 30 minutes twice every day; once at 12 PM and again at 6 PM. She recommends setting her spa’s temperature to 36°C or 37°C with the bubbles activated for the duration of her time in the spa.
Does Sue Recommend A Lay-Z-Spa For Others Suffering With Her Condition?
"I would definitely recommend a Lay-Z-Spa to anyone with spinal injuries or Fibromyalgia etc. in fact any condition where your muscles or bones ache. The Lay-Z-Spa is a brilliant hot tub and because it's inflatable the sides are nice and soft, not hard on your back like the more expensive ones, I wouldn't swap that's for sure"
