How To Clean a Lay-Z-Spa Hot Tub

A Lay-Z-Spa brings a luxurious spa experience to any home but even with thorough chemical treatment of the water and regular maintenance, periodic cleaning of the whole hot tub is necessary. After emptying the water and prior to a refill, or before packing away it is recommended to give the entire Lay-Z-Spa a deep clean inside and out.

The best way to clean a Lay-Z-Spa hot tub.

Cleaning a Lay-Z-Spa in 7 Easy Steps

1. Remove any dirt or debris

Use a skimmer net to remove anything that is floating on the surface, such as leaves. For any dirt on the bottom, we have underwater vacuums that help suck this up so it doesn’t get stuck in your drainage pipe.

2. Shock dose (optional)

This might sound a bit unusual but if your water has lost or is losing quality prior to emptying, give it a shock dose and make sure the water circulates thoroughly by turning on the filter and AirJets. This will essentially give the inside of your Lay-Z-Spa and the pump a good disinfecting.

3. Drain The Water

Turn off the power, remove the filter housing and ChemConnect™, add the stopper caps and disconnect the pump. Connect the hose attachment to the drain pipe, lift up the drain plug and allow the water to drain out to a suitable draining area.

4. Clean the Pump

Whilst your Lay-Z-Spa is draining, you should give the pump a good clean. Flush out or backwash the pump using a garden hose and then tip the pump to make sure there is no water left inside. Dry the inside by connecting the inflation hose, aiming it inside the pipes and turning on the AirJets™. Then, give the outside a wipe down with a damp cloth. You shouldn’t need any chemical sprays for this.

5. Clean the inflatable liner

The outside of your Lay-Z-Spa can be exposed to rain and general garden dirt build-up whilst the inside can get waterline marks or oily residue build-ups. Generally, if your Lay-Z-Spa is kept in good condition, a rinse with a hose and wipe down with a damp cloth should suffice. However, if you have any stubborn marks or stains, you can use soapy water, or an antibacterial spray and a Miracle Pad. Just make sure any soapy water is rinsed off afterwards. Don’t forget to flip over the Lay-Z-Spa liner and clean the base too.

Top Tip: When rinsing the inside of your Lay-Z-Spa liner with a hose, tip it on its side so the dirty water doesn’t all collect in the bottom.

6. Clean the lid and top cover

Don’t forget to give the top cover a good wipe down as this is exposed to all the elements and can sometimes end up with dirt build-ups in parts. The inflatable lid and underside of the top cover can have steam condensing into droplets with traces of chemicals, and even body oils, so both needs= a good wipe down with some soapy water. They must be thoroughly dry before putting together again.

7. Clean or replace the filter

Filters do a lot of the hard work of keeping your water clear. After cleaning your Lay-Z-Spa, you don’t want to put a dirty filter back in. You can clean Lay-Z-Spa filters or replace them if they are worn out and discoloured.
