Laboratory tests have indicated that Lay-Z-Spa EnergySense® and ThermaCore™ hot tubs are much more energy-efficient than inflatable hot tubs without this energy-saving construction.
The tests were conducted in Germany by TÜV Rheinland, one of the world's leading providers of testing, inspection and compliance of everything from consumer goods to road vehicles to building infrastructures.
What is EnergySense® and ThermaCore™?

EnergySense® is a revolutionary development never seen before in inflatable hot tubs. EnergySense® is a layer of thermal insulation built-in to the inflatable liner and top cover of the hot tub and not seen from the outside.
- ThermaCore™ is a construction made up of rigid lightweight foam shaped into panels that create the structure of the hot tub. This uniquely designed material not only gives the hot tubs their stable structure but also has exceptional thermal properties.
Test conditions and procedure
TÜV Rheinland's goal was to create fluctuating conditions to test the energy consumption of the Lay-Z-Spa hot tub samples provided. They commented saying that the equipment used during the specified testing period was calibrated according to their own test laboratory calibration program and fulfils the requirements in the relevant standards. The traceability of the test equipment used is ensured by compliance with the regulations of our management system.

Lay-Z-Spa EnergySense® test results
A 2025 Lay-Z-Spa with EnergySense® insulation was tested against its older pre-2025 version without the EnergySense® insulation.
Over a period of 73.4 hours, with an average high temperature of 39°C and an average low temperature of 15°C, they found the Lay-Z-Spa with EnergySense® had 58.8% less power usage.

Lay-Z-Spa ThermaCore™ test results
A 2025 ThermaCore™ rigid foam Lay-Z-Spa was tested against an equivalent-sized inflatable Lay-Z-Spa hot tub.
Over a period of 78 hours, with an average high temperature of 39°C and an average low temperature of 15°C, they found the Lay-Z-Spa with ThermaCore™ had 63.6% less power usage.
